  • European Museum Forum is delighted to announce the launch of European Museum of the Year Award 2019 competition.

    The European Museum Forum (EMF) is an independent not-for-profit organisation which is a charitable company registered in the UK, dedicated to promoting innovation in museum practice and encouraging exchange of best practice and ideas across Europe.
     
    The EMF/EMYA is one of the leading organizations in Europe for developing the public quality of European museums and has established this primary position after 40 years of providing its service. It runs the most prestigious museum award in Europe and is an important occasion for promoting innovative approaches in the museum sector throughout the whole continent.

    The awards

    HOW TO BECOME A CANDIDATE
    The applying museum can be EITHER a new museum first opened to the public in the past three years, OR it can be an established museum that has completed a substantial programme of modernisation, extension, reorganisation or re-interpretation during the past three years.

    ELIGIBILITY
    • Any new museum or any museum substantially renovated or redeveloped, can apply.
    • Temporary or ‘semi-permanent’ exhibitions can be the subject of an application. It has to be noted that museums/exhibitions need to be open/completed in time for the judging visit (summer – early autumn) and have to remain accessible until at least the end of June the following year.
    • Museums/exhibitions opened for more than 3 years at the time of the application, are not eligible.
    • No individual museum can be submitted for the award within three years of a previous application i.e. in 2016,2017 or 2018. (This does not include different branches of a multi-venue museum service).

    COMPETITION ENTRY FEE
    The completed application form should be accompanied by an entry fee of 500 EURO.
    Please note that your participation in the annual EMF Assembly and EMYA Award ceremony will be subject to additional costs including registration, travel and accommodation. These costs are not included in the competition entry fee.

    Payments should be made by bank transfer. Please note that the applicant must pay for any bank charges incurred. Please make sure that your payment is identifiable, by including the name of the museum and the town in which it is situated as a payment reference.
     
    Please note that the application fee is non-refundable.
