  • Training “Planning the museum renovation” for Georgian museums managers led by Barry Lord

  • On September 2-4, 2009 there was held training/seminar for Georgian museums managers in Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia. The training/seminar has a topic “Planning the museum renovation” led by Barry Lord – prominent expert in the world, president of International museum institution Lord Cultural Resources. Barry lord (together with Gail Lord) has created 5 manuals of museum field, what are considered by UNESCO and ICOM as the best methodical manual for museums and are created the learning manuals in USA and in more

    than 80 universities of European countries. By the agreement of USA publishing house “Altamira Press, with financial support of Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia and contribution of ICOM National Committee in Georgia 2 manuals “Manual of Museum Management” and “The Manual of Museum Exhibitions” have been published in Georgian language, the books were presents to all museums in Georgia, to the institutions interested in museum field. These books were introduced in 5 universities as manuals for students of culture management, museum management, and art history and museology specialities.
     

    The training was arranged with financial support of Ministry of Culture and Monuments Protection of Georgia, with co-organization of ICOM National Committee in Georgia and State Silk Museum. There were participated 40 managers from different museums of Tbilisi and regions of Georgia in the training. Together with the issues of Museums renovation (including planning of existed museum buildings reconstruction) the seminar reviewed particular problems of more than 40 museums in Georgia and were considered the ways of solving these problems with corresponding recommendations.
